Save the World - Switch off the Internet (for at least 5 minutes)

EiffelTower

(Eiffel tower during shut-down)

When we saw in German Television (on the Tagesschau!) that they switched off the Eiffel Tower in Paris on February 1st for five minutes– after the grassroots chain e-mail regarding the UN climate report — we wondered how much impact we can reach if we made a bigger issue out of this. We also saw the progress shutdownday is making (17,000 yes votes so far), and started thinking about business’ role in all this, and how Spreadshirt could be involved.

The best way to leave a tip…

I just read this really cool blog post about how to leave a memorable tip. Now it was obviously the shirt that fascinated me the most (the spider just looks way too hard!), but i thought instead of just telling you about this nice idea, i thought i would try it out for myself….

Here is a photo from the site showing you just how good the shirt/note can look….

Office Hijinx

Sometimes in the quieter moments at Spreadshirt HQ, when its almost quiet enough to think about it being quiet enough to hear yourself thinking about it being quiet enough to (okay you get the idea), we like nothing more than coming up with stupid stuff to amuse ourselves.

Here’s what we’ve been up to recently:

Brainteaser (2)

Adam the t-shirt salesman has three business cards: a black card that is black on both sides, a white card that is white on both sides and a mixed card that is black on one side and white on the other. He pulls one from his pocket at random and hands it to you. The side facing you is black. What is the probability that the reverse side is also black?

Creating Vector Graphics from photographs

Content shamelessly “borrowed” from the US blog. Doesn’t affect the quality of the tutorial though :)
“For anyone who is interested in t-shirt design, check out this nice tutorial from the Layers Magazine website. T-shirt designer Jeff Finely takes you through creating a t-shirt design using vector graphics in Illustrator.
This gives a pretty nice, not too complex overview of turning a photo into a vector graphics for t-shirts. The t-shirt used as as the example is a bit too complex for Spreadshirt’s print types.

Since Christmas I have been on the hunt for a way to turn a photograph into a vector graphic. This tutorial is a good overview of that. If you are going to use your vector for a Spreadshirt design, make sure it meets the minimum requirements so that it is possible to turn your design into a design on the shirt. For more information on the specifics of preparing vector graphics for Spreadshirt visit the shop partner admin. “

8 top tips for advertising with adwords

There are many ways to promote your T-Shirt Shop. Google Adwords is one. Below is a brief introduction to Google Adwords followed by my 8 tips to success. This is not meant to be a definitive guide, merely a starting point if you are looking to get into Pay Per Click (PPC).

Google Adwords allows you to place advertisements that appear on the right hand side when you search on Google. You decide for which keywords you want your advertisement(s) to appear and how much you want to pay for each click. You then set a daily budget and when its reached your ad will no longer appear. It can be a great way to get targeted traffic to your site.

Remember, there are lots of ways apart from PPC to advertise your site. Whilst Google Adwords, if done correctly can prove to be very profitable, you should always set yourself a budget and stick to it! It should be noted that there is the potential to lose money with Google Adwords. So, for those of you feeling brave enough to take the plunge, here are my 8 top tips for advertising your t-shirt shop on Google Adwords.

Spreadblog meets…. Individualitee

Look out for regular interviews with shop-partners in the future. Its a great opportunity for them to share their experiences with the community and to give us feedback on our service. This week its the turn of the Individualitee. The words “think global, act local” spring to mind when I look at their site, effortlessly tailoring their store to each of the big markets.

Individualitee Homepage

The stores are a joint venture between Ben (who handles the store management) and eM (the designer). Its really smart to combine in this way, often you see shop-partner stores which are excellent technically but lacking in designs. Individualitee doesn’t have this problem. Check out some of their designs and an interview in the full post.
